Medical Marijuana And Cancer Research

According to the investigators at the University of Salerno, cannabinoids (one of the compounds found in medical marijuana) limit cancer cell proliferation and induce tumor-selective cell death.

The authors of the scientific review concluded that, cannabinoids inhibit “tumor growth and migration, angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels to cancerous tumors), [and] metastasis (the transfer of malignant cells from one site to another).” They are also quoted as stating that, “Emerging evidence suggests that agonists of cannabinoid receptors … may offer a novel strategy to treat cancer.”

Some states say that using marijuana for medical purposes is allowed, while the federal Drug Enforcement Agency enforces the nation-wide ban on pot in all states. Many medical marijuana clinics in California, for example, have been raided by the DEA, who seized hundreds of pounds of their inventory, despite the fact that medical marijuana is approved in California. This caused an outrage in the cannabis smoking society, and it heightens the overall hostility between citizens and the government when the issue at hand is legalizing weed.

Is Medical Marijuana Destined To Become A Gateway Drug

Medical Marijuana has a myriad of anticipation, some positive and some negative. There are opponents of medicinal pot who claim that the new found status of Marijuana will be destined to that of an express gateway to other drugs. It’s almost as if this omnipotent plant can take a person by the hand, and walk them right into a crack house or shove a pill down someone’s throat. What is a gateway drug anyway?
